[Guam Local Gourmet – Manang Pika] Enjoy the best viria tacos! The American size is amazing!

Guam

Hello, this is Ron.

In this blog, “Future Atlas by Ron,” I write realistic travel diaries of the places I have visited based on my experience of traveling to more than 15 countries, as well as my impressions and insights from my travels.

I usually travel on my days off while working full time in Tokyo, and I am active in my efforts to share the charm of international travel with everyone.

It’s perfect for those who ‘want to enjoy non-touristy Guam food’ and ‘want to go to a restaurant where locals go.’ This time, we went to Manang Pika, a local restaurant about 10 minutes by car from Hagatna, where there are almost no tourists, and tasted a hearty Mexican plate! This is a realistic report on the restaurant, its menu, portions and atmosphere.

A popular Mexican restaurant loved by Guam’s locals!

Restaurants in tourist areas are fine, but I want to eat really good food!” Manang Pika is recommended for those who want to eat really good food.
It is easily accessible, about 10 minutes by car from Hagatna, the centre of Guam.
It opened in the Corona Disaster in 2020. It is actually a well-known local restaurant that was originally a very popular food truck and grand opened at its current location in 2024.

Atmosphere and ordering points

The interior of the restaurant is bright and clean, with a cute pop and colourful decoration.
On the day of the interview, the customers were mainly locals rather than tourists, giving the place a local feel. This can be expected.

Another nice point is that there are discounts depending on the day of the week!
This time, the plate menu was cheaper by 1 or 2 dollar, so we ordered a set for a good price.

Ordering menu and food report

This time we chose two items:

  • Birria Combo($14)
→ 2 tacos + nachos (choice of chips or French fries)
  • Quesabirria Taco Plate($15)
→ hearty plate of four tacos

Both are authentic birria tacos, with excellent tender meat!
The nachos are also a great choice, with a choice of tortilla chips or French fries. This time I chose the chips.

The meat is delicious and the spices are exquisite, and although they are hearty, you won’t get bored of the taste.
However, they are American-sized and quite large, so there is enough for two people to share!
