Hello, this is Ron.
This blog, “Future Atlas by Ron,” aims to be a regional information site based on experiences traveling to over 15 countries. It shares authentic reviews and recommended spots from places I’ve visited.
I work full-time in Tokyo and travel on my days off, sharing the appeal of overseas travel with everyone.
This article is designed to help those thinking, “I want to go to Guam!” by sharing insights and tips gained from actually visiting Guam—Japan’s closest tropical resort—along with a sample itinerary.
It also links to detailed reports and reviews of the spots mentioned, so be sure to check those out too!
What’s Guam like?
- Location/Nationality: Guam is a U.S. territory (unincorporated territory) accessible via a roughly 3.5-hour flight from Japan.
- Language: The official language is English. Japanese is often understood at tourist spots and hotels, but knowing basic English is recommended for peace of mind.
- Currency: The U.S. dollar (USD) is used. Cashless payments are mainstream locally, so large amounts of cash aren’t necessary, but having some small bills on hand is convenient.
- Temperature: A year-round tropical climate with temperatures around 30°C (86°F).
- Seasons:
- Rainy Season: June to October. Squalls and thunderstorms can occur suddenly.
- Dry Season: November to May. Relatively more sunny days.

How about transportation in Guam?

- Rental cars are the primary mode of transportation. If you have a Japanese driver’s license, you can drive without an international driver’s permit. U.S. citizens can drive, of course.
- Because the island is small, getting around by car is extremely convenient. Tourist spots are concentrated, so you can efficiently cover them even on a short trip.
- Traffic rules follow the American system: drive on the right side of the road with left-hand drive vehicles. Be sure to familiarize yourself with traffic signals and road signs.

Visit as a couple and you’ll be united!? Two Lovers Point
If there’s one place you absolutely can’t miss on your trip to Guam, it’s Two Lovers Point.
Located about a 5-minute drive from downtown Tumon, it’s a classic spot offering one of Guam’s most spectacular panoramic views.
The observation deck sits atop a cliff about 120 meters above sea level, providing a magnificent vista stretching from Tumon Bay to Cape Orote. The emerald green sea during the day and the orange-tinged sunset in the evening are both breathtakingly beautiful.
There is also a romantic legend that says “couples who visit here will be united,” making it a popular date spot. The site is full of special experiences that allow you to create lasting memories, such as the “Lovers’ Bell” and “Heart Key Chain Experience.”
