[Guam Village of Donki Review] The world’s largest Donki is now in Guam!

Guam

Hello, this is Ron.

In this blog, “Future Atlas by Ron,” I write realistic travel diaries of the places I have visited based on my experience of traveling to more than 15 countries, as well as my impressions and insights from my travels.

I usually travel on my days off while working full time in Tokyo, and I am active in my efforts to share the charm of international travel with everyone.

The long-awaited Village of Donki opened in Guam in April 2024. Don Quijote is a well-known supermarket in Japan. Hearing that the ‘world’s largest shop’ has opened overseas, we immediately reported on what we saw there!

📍Access and basic information

Village of Donki is located in Tamuning, central Guam. It is close to the airport and Lover’s Point, making it an attractive place to drop in between sightseeing and hotel stays.

  • Address: Pale San Vitores Rd, Tamuning, Guam.
  • Access: 5-minute drive from Guam International Airport / 15-minute drive from Lover’s Point.
  • Opening hours: open from morning to late night (closed at 22:00 when visited).
  • Parking: spacious free parking available
  • Official websitehttps://www.dondondonki.com

🛒Village of Donki is a ‘Japanese town’ in itself!

Aptly named “Village”, this is now a “small Japanese town”. The shops include not only Don Quijote, but also Japanese brands such as

  • Matsumotokiyoshi (pharmacy)
  • Daiso (100 yen shop)
  • Japanese restaurants and food court
  • Japanese-style barbecue and ramen restaurants

The well-known background music of ‘Don Don Don, Don Ki’ is played at the entrance, and many of the shelves are marked in Japanese, giving Japanese visitors a sense of security, as if they were at home.

Food court
Sushi restaurant was extremely crowded on the first day of opening.

🧺Product line-up|A fusion of three cultures: Japanese, American and Guam

The shop has endless shelves ‘crammed with products’, as is typical of Don Quijote. The products are a mixture of three cultures.

✅ Japanese goods

  • Instant noodles, furikake, sweets (e.g. Jagariko, Choco Pie)
  • Face packs, sunscreen, quasi-drugs
  • Japanese souvenir goods such as teacups, chopsticks, Japanese pattern accessories, grandchildren’s hands, etc.
  • Japanese leisure goods, such as sink noodle machines, pots, gas stoves, BBQ sets, etc.

✅ USA & Guam goods

  • Colourful cereals and snacks
  • Costco-based bulk products and giant chips
  • Local cosmetics, nuts and coconut products exclusive to Guam

✅ Other

  • Travel goods such as carry-on cases and sunglasses are also available for local procurement.
  • The frozen food section even has authentic Japanese bento lunches!

🎁The best place to find souvenirs|When in doubt, this is the place to go! Featured local products

The Village of Donki is a “souvenir paradise”. Prices are more reasonable than at the airport or hotel kiosks, and the quantities are plentiful. The following are particularly recommended!

① Red velvet-flavoured pancakes ()

The bright red appearance surprised me! The cocoa flavour and slightly sour taste made these pancakes addictive.

② Noni tea ()

Noni tea is popular among health-conscious people. I had a bit of trouble with it, but many people get addicted to its unique aroma and taste.

③ Mauna Loa macadamia nuts, garlic flavour ()

Strongest snack. The savoury garlic flavour and nutty richness is so exquisite, you can’t stop.

④ Pop Tarts ()

A classic American breakfast. Amazing tart with jam and cream sandwiches and sweet frosting.

Attractions & cautions that I have actually visited.

✔Good Points

  • Unparalleled range of goods: food, general merchandise and cosmetics are all available at a ‘I could live here’ level.
  • Japanese language support: POP and packaging are in Japanese. Some shop staff also speak Japanese.
  • Good location for a stopover between sightseeing: close to the airport, just right for the beginning or end of a trip.

⚠Note

  • Prices are slightly higher: partly due to the weak yen, some products are more expensive than in Japan.
→ Be careful not to overbuy! Careful selection is recommended!

✈Finally|Village of Donki is more than a “shopping” experience

The Village of Donki in Guam is an exciting place to shop and create memories of your trip.
It is a new place where you can get Japanese goods at local prices and enjoy picking up souvenirs while sightseeing, killing two birds with one stone.

If you miss the convenience of Donki even when you are abroad
and want to find unusual local souvenirs
, I can wholeheartedly recommend this spot to you.
