Hello, this is Ron!
This time I would like to share with you my review of 8 Art Hotel On The Bund, which I stayed at during my trip to Shanghai.
The hotel is located 5 minutes on foot from Nanjing E. Road Station, and within walking distance of the Bund, Yu Garden, and Nanjing E. Road shopping street. It is a very convenient hotel as a base for sightseeing.
Here is a detailed summary of my impressions of the actual stay, the room, and the surrounding environment.
In this blog, “Future Atlas by Ron,” I write realistic travel diaries of the places I have visited based on my experience of traveling to more than 15 countries, as well as my impressions and insights from my travels.
I usually travel on my days off while working full time in Tokyo, and I am active in my efforts to share the charm of international travel with everyone.

Lodging Background

During my stay in Shanghai, I focused on sightseeing in the city, so I looked for a hotel with good accessibility as my first priority.
I chose “8 Art Hotel On The Bund ” because it had good reviews and the price was relatively reasonable.
Basic Information

- Room rate: about 9,000 yen per night (including breakfast/booking through Agoda)
👉 Click here for reservation page on Agoda - Location: 5 minutes walk from Nanjing E. Road Station, walking distance to the Bund and Yu Garden
- Front desk: 10th floor (elevator required to go up)
- Address:7 Yan’an Rd (E), Waitan, Huangpu, Shanghai, China 200120
Check-in
The hotel is located on the upper floors of a building, so I got a little lost at the entrance.
The front desk is located at the top of the elevator on the 10th floor.
Check-in time is usually in the afternoon, but this time we were able to check in early at 11:00 a.m. at no extra charge.
The front desk staff spoke English and were friendly. The information said we needed a Chinese phone number, but they were flexible enough to accommodate us as we had a SIM card that didn’t work with our number.
Also, there were snacks available at the front desk, which was a nice little service.
Room

- Compact in size, but clean.
- Windows offer a view of Shanghai Tower (but the view in front is a bit chaotic…)
- The washbasin is spacious and easy to use.
- The shower leaks when used, causing puddles on the floor, which is a negative.
The room itself was comfortable, and the quality was good enough considering it was just for sleeping with an emphasis on sightseeing.
Breakfast and surroundings

Breakfast was included in the room rate. It was simple but necessary and perfect for a light meal before heading out for sightseeing.
There is also a McDonald’s nearby that is open until late at night, so there is no need to worry about late night dining. The Bund and East Nanjing Road are also within walking distance, so it was quite convenient as a sightseeing and shopping base.
Advantages and disadvantages of staying at the hotel

✅ Advantages
- 5-minute walk from Nanjing East Road Station, within walking distance of tourist attractions
- Rates are reasonable for the location at about 9,000 yen
- Friendly English-speaking staff
- Early check-in was possible at no extra charge
- View of Shanghai Tower from the window
❌ Disadvantages
- Difficult to find the front desk (10th floor of the building)
- Water leaks when using the shower
- Rooms are not spacious
Summary
The 8 Art Hotel On The Bund was the perfect hotel for the location-conscious tourist.
Being able to walk to the Bund and Nanjing East Road is a big plus, and the price is reasonable. Although there were some inconveniences in terms of facilities, the stay was satisfactory enough as a base for sightseeing.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an accessible hotel in Shanghai!
